Facial Aesthetic Surgery
A healthy eye and the surrounding area are regions that make a person look young, dynamic, and lively. The most common concerns regarding the eyelids include excess skin and fat on the upper eyelids, and puffiness, hollows, and fine lines on the lower eyelids. People with these issues often appear tired, aged, sad, or unrested. As a result, they may face questions from others, which can affect their self-confidence and social life. Eyelid surgery addresses these problems, helping individuals look energetic and confident.
**How Are Eyelid Surgeries Performed?**
Eyelid surgeries, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed separately on the upper and lower eyelids. They can also be combined with procedures such as brow lifts, forehead lifts, and mid-face rejuvenation. Additionally, Botox and filler treatments around the eyes can complement these surgeries.
Eyelid surgeries can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia.
**Types of Aesthetic Eyelid Surgeries:**
**1. Upper Eyelid Aesthetic Surgery**
In upper eyelid surgery, excess skin and fat deposits on the upper eyelid are removed.
**2. Lower Eyelid Aesthetic Surgery**
In lower eyelid surgery, excess skin and fat pockets are removed. If hollows are present along with puffiness, some fat is repositioned to fill the hollows, correcting both issues simultaneously.
**Surgery Duration**
If only blepharoplasty is performed without other procedures, surgery for both upper and lower eyelids typically lasts 2–3 hours.
**Postoperative Period**
After surgery, apart from mild pain managed with painkillers, patients usually do not experience severe discomfort. Discharge occurs the same day or after an overnight stay.
Swelling and bruising around the eyes generally resolve within 1–2 weeks. Stitches are removed after 5–7 days, and patients can usually return to work and daily activities within a few days.
Incisions are made within the natural upper eyelid crease for the upper eyelids and along the lash line for the lower eyelids. Over time, these incisions leave minimal or no visible scarring.
